Abstract

A liquid discharge apparatus includes a liquid discharge head having a discharge port, a liquid chamber that communicates with the discharge port, a heat generating resistor provided in the liquid chamber, and a first electrode and a second electrode provided in the liquid chamber; and a control unit that controls potential to the first electrode and the second electrode, on the basis of a potential control condition according to the type of the liquid. The first electrode is provided so as to overlap a position at which the heat generating resistor is provided, and the second electrode is provided so as not to overlap a position at which the first electrode is provided. The control unit modifies the potential control condition in accordance with changes in the composition of the liquid.
