Abstract
An imaging element according to an embodiment includes: a pixel region in which pixels, each including a photoelectric conversion unit and a first capacitor that accumulates a charge based on photoelectric conversion by the photoelectric conversion unit, are arranged in a two-dimensional matrix, the pixel region having a first pixel group constituted by pixels arranged adjacent to each other in a diagonal direction and a second pixel group constituted by pixels adjacent above, below, to the right, and to the left of the pixels in the first pixel group; and a drive unit that generates drive signals that drive the pixels in the pixel region. In a first period of signal readout based on charges accumulated in the first capacitors in the pixel region, the drive unit maintains a reset state that suppresses charge accumulation in the first capacitors of the second pixel group.
