Abstract

This invention provides molecules that bind to and/or chemically transform a preselected target such as a protein molecule, where the molecules contain one or more 'non-standard' nucleotides. These are nucleotide analogs that, when incorporated into oligonucleotides (DNA or RNA, collectively NA), present a pattern of hydrogen bonds that is different from the pattern presented by adenine, guanine, cytosine, and uracil or thymidine.
