Abstract

An oxygen carrier includes an alumina support, cerium oxide in an amount of 0.5 to 2 percent by weight (wt. %), and iron oxide in an amount of 5 to 35 wt. %, where the percent by weight is based on a total weight of the oxygen carrier. Further, the cerium oxide and the iron oxide are doped on the alumina support, the oxygen carrier is in the form of layered particles having a longest dimension of 50 to 500 nm. Furthermore, the oxygen carrier is porous with an average pore volume of 0.01 to 0.05 cm/g and an average pore diameter of 10 to 20 nm, the iron oxide has an average crystallite size of 10 to 30 nm, and the oxygen carrier includes a CeOphase, an AlOphase, an FeOphase, and an FeAlOphase.
