Abstract

A zoom optical system consists of, in order from an object on an optical axis: a first lens group having a positive refractive power; a second lens group having a negative refractive power; and a rear group that includes a plurality of lens groups. The rear group comprises a first focusing lens group having a positive refractive power, and a second focusing lens group having a negative refractive power. Upon zooming from a wide angle end to a telephoto end, distances between lens groups adjacent to each other among the first lens group, the second lens group, and the plurality of lens groups, change. Upon focusing from an infinity object to a short distance object, the first focusing lens group and the second focusing lens group move toward an image along movement trajectories different from each other. The following conditional expression is satisfied,1.10<2/2<2.00
