In response to determining at least a portion of the touch screen display is inoperable for one or more of presenting a user interface and detecting a touch input of a touch screen access credential, the controller accesses emergency access credential(s) stored in memory of the electronic device. The controller activates an emergency access mode and initiates monitoring input device(s) for an input of emergency access credential(s). In response to authenticating a user based on detecting the emergency access credential(s), the controller enables one or more detectable input commands to control the electronic device.
