Abstract

A method of producing hydrogen gas by hydrolyzing sodium borohydride (NaBH) with water at a temperature of about 20 to 75° C. in the presence of a particulate crystalline nanocomposite catalyst, wherein the ratio by weight of NaBHto the particulate crystalline nanocomposite catalyst is from about 1:1 to about 5:1. The particulate crystalline nanocomposite catalyst comprises: a hexagonal lanthanum hydroxide (La(OH)) crystalline phase; a lanthanum oxide (LaO) crystalline phase; a monoclinic calcium silicate (CaSiO) crystalline phase; and, a graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) crystalline phase, wherein at least a fraction of the g-CNis in the form of mesoporous nanosheets.
