Abstract

Techniques are provided for reducing coordinator roundtrips during a distributed transaction while still ensuring that the transaction coordinator has all the information the coordinator needs to finalize the distributed transaction. The techniques involve inserting 'finalization information' from the participants of a transaction in the return messages sent by the participants of the transaction. The finalization information that is included in the return messages sent by each participant is information that enables a coordinator to confirm/cancel or commit/rollback the changes made by the participant, and any participants that are downstream from the participant. When the participants are done, the finalization information obtained from the return messages is provided to the coordinator to allow the coordinator to finalize the distributed transaction.
