Abstract
Provided is a modified vinyl alcohol polymer which is superior in water solubility, viscosity stability of an aqueous solution thereof, and water resistance of a film thereof. The modified vinyl alcohol polymer has a group represented by the following formula (1). In the formula (1), Rrepresents: an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms; an alkoxy group having an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms; a hydroxy group; or a group represented by −OM, wherein M represents an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, Rrepresents a group including a siloxane structure, and n is an integer of 1 to 3.
