Abstract

According to one aspect of an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, a medical imaging system includes a gantry having a radiation source, a detector adapted to receive radiation emitted from the radiation source to generate image data and defining a compression surface, a first support structure and a second support structure moveably disposed on the gantry, a controller, and a biopsy positioner attached to one of the first support structure or the second support structure. The biopsy positioner includes a base engaged with the first support structure or the second support structure, and a positioning arm connected to the base, the positioning arm including a first arm moveably connected to the base and a second arm moveably connected to the first arm, wherein the first arm and the second arm are moveable between a vertical position and lateral positions on opposed sides of the base.
