Abstract
A method for performing a key exchange using a quantum key distribution protocol between a first device (D), a second device (D), and an intermediary device (ID), wherein: ID receives first symbol set (SS) over first quantum channel (QC) transmitted from Dand sends first receiving basis information (RBI) to Dwhich withholds from ID first transmitting basis information (TBI); ID transmits second symbol set (SS) over second quantum channel (QC) and second transmitting basis information (TBI) to Dwhich withholds from ID second receiving basis information (RBI); ID generates first (IS) and second intermediate symbol (IS) sets based on valid SSand SS; wherein ID generates third intermediate symbol (IS) set by combining ISand ISand sends ISset to Dand/or D; wherein Dand Dexchange TBIand RBIand/or RBIand TBIto determine a final shared key based on SS, SS, and ISsets.
