Abstract

A betavoltaic power source. The power source comprises a source of beta particles and a plurality of regions for collecting the beta particles and for generating electron hole pairs responsive to the beta particle flux. The power source is intended for in vivo applications and is scaled to fit within a catheter for placing the power source and one or more sensors or activators within a living body. Preferably, a secondary power source is charged by a current developed by the electron hole pairs for providing constant power to the sensors or activators.
