Abstract
For this ignition device, a fuel including hydrogen is used. The ignition device includes an ignition coil, a spark plug, a power supply device, a switching element, a first limiting diode, and a first resistor. Two first connecting wires are laid in parallel between the one end of the secondary coil and the spark plug. The first limiting diode is interposed in one first connecting wire and is forward-biased when oriented in a direction from one end to the other end of the secondary coil. The first limiting diode has a breakdown voltage that is equal to or higher than a maximum value of an ON-state voltage, and is lower than a discharge maintaining voltage of the spark plug. The first resistor is interposed in the other first connecting wire and has a resistance value of 10 MΩ or higher and of 50 MΩ or lower.
