A method for key generation with quantum key distribution including: In step iv), the first receiver data are first transmitted from the first receiver to the second receiver, and subsequently in step iv) the second receiver performs a pre-sifting to reduce the second receiver data, based on the first receiver data and one or more pre-sifting parameters, and subsequently in step iv) the pre-sifted second receiver data are transmitted to the first receiver.
