Abstract

An infrared camera is provided having an uncooled focal plane array with pixels that are read out with visible light instead of electrically. Accordingly, the pixels of the focal plane array are configured to have a visible light reflectivity (at a specific operating wavelength) that is a sensitive function of pixel temperature. One way of providing visible light to such a focal plane array is with a side-illuminated diffractive optical waveguide structure. One way of providing high temperature sensitivity of the pixels is for the pixels to include resonant waveguide grating structures.
