Abstract

An aerosol-generating device may include an accommodation space where an aerosol-generating article is accommodated, a heater configured to generate aerosol by heating the aerosol-generating article, a transducer configured to output ultrasonic waves toward the accommodation space, receive ultrasonic waves reflected from the accommodation space, and generate electric signals corresponding to the received ultrasonic waves, and a processor configured to determine a type of the aerosol-generating article accommodated in the accommodation space based on the electric signals generated by the transducer, and control an operation of the heater based on the determined type of the aerosol-generating article.
