Abstract

An array antenna having multiple elements transmits and receives electromagnetic waves via the elements. The array antenna has an electromagnetic wave control unit that inclines direction of transmission and reception of electromagnetic waves in at least a first direction by emitting electromagnetic waves of mutually different amplitudes or phases at the elements. The array antenna has multiple element columns having two or more N elements aligned at a prescribed interval din a second direction substantially orthogonal to first direction. The element columns are configured as subarrays. The elements are arranged with a prescribed interval dtherebetween in the first direction to form element rows, and the element columns are disposed offset in first direction by approximately d/2 from elements or element columns adjacent thereto in second direction. The element column in the outermost element row has more elements than any other element column in the element row other than the outermost element row.
