Abstract
A differential cage () may accommodate a differential gear. The differential cage () has, on a radially outward side, a lateral surface (), against which a gear wheel of the differential is to rest. The gear wheel is slidable on from a slide-on side and attached on the differential cage. The differential cage () includes a radially outwardly projecting flange () located axially on a side of the lateral surface () remote from the slide-on side. For the differential cage () to be welded to different types of gear wheels, a first abutment surface () and a second abutment surface () are formed on the flange () as alternatives for forming a weld joint with the gear wheel. The first abutment surface () is formed on the flange () facing radially outwards, and the second abutment surface () is formed on the flange () facing axially towards the slide-on side ().
