Abstract

An indoor mapping system utilizing beacons is described. The system includes a premises map, a beacon disposed within the premises, a plurality of measured signal strengths, and a wireless device. The beacon location is layered on the map, and the measured signal strengths are captured from the beacon. The wireless device includes an indoor positioning module, and the wireless device receives a beacon signal when it is within a broadcast range of the beacon. The wireless device determines a signal strength of the received beacon signal. The indoor positioning module associates the measured signal strengths with their corresponding beacon location. The beacon location is further associated with a plurality of calculated signal strengths that are generated from the measured signal strengths. The indoor positioning module determines that the wireless device is at a location by comparing the received beacon identifiers and signal strengths with the calculated signal strengths.
