Abstract

A waveguide includes a partially transparent incoupling portion, having a decoupling portion spaced apart therefrom in the lateral direction, having a substantially transparent base body outside the incoupling and outcoupling portions. The transparent base body has front and rear sides, the wave guide having a diffractive incoupling structure in the incoupling portion and a decoupling structure in the decoupling portion, the diffractive incoupling structure configured to diffract radiation coming from an object and incident on the incoupling portion only in part such that the diffracted part propagates to the decoupling portion by reflections in the base body as incoupled radiation, The decoupling structure deflects part of the incoupled radiation such that the deflected part exits the base body in the decoupling portion via the front or rear side as decoupled radiation, and the diffractive incoupling structure has a diffractive efficiency which continually decreases toward one edge of the incoupling portion.
