Abstract

In a method of treating a gas stream () containing combustible and/or reactive particles () at least a part of the particles () contained in the gas stream () is separated from the gas stream () by means of a separation device (). The particles () separated from the gas stream () by means of the separation device () are supplied to a collecting vessel (). The supply of particles () to the collecting vessel () is interrupted. A flame retardant material () is supplied to the collecting vessel () so as to form a cover layer of flame retardant material () on the particles () contained in the collecting vessel ().
