Abstract
A macromolecule membrane structure () comprises a membrane () with water-channeling integral membrane proteins (IMPS) () and is coated, on a first surface, with a silica layer (). The silica layer () stabilizes the macromolecule membrane structure () and the water-channeling IMPS () while maintaining the water-channeling function of the water-channeling IMPs (). As a consequence of this stabilization, the macromolecule membrane structure () may be used in a filtration device () for various filtration operations, including water purification.
