Abstract
A nutless boltfor fastening a wear plateto a structurecomprises a bodyhaving a shaftand a stopcoupled to the shaft. Shaftis dimensioned to pass through a holein structurewhile stopis configured to stop the bodyfrom falling wholly into or through the hole, and to engage with the wear surface plate. An axial boreis formed in bodyand houses locking ballsand a rod. The bodyalso has radial channels along which the ballscan roll. The rodhas a tapered portionwhich increases in outer diameter from a first location Lto a second location L. In use the ballsare initially at the first location Lon the rodand partially within respective channels. Pulling the rodin an up-hole direction results in the rodmoving in a radial outward direction as they roll along the tapered portionto the location L. The balls now lie partially outside of the of the bodylocking the boltin the hole. Applying additional pulling force on the rod increases tension in the rod to intentionally cause a controlled break or separation of the rod into a first portionthat is withdrawn from the bore and a second portionthat remains in the bore and bearing against the balls
