Abstract

An electrically heatable aerosol-generating device for heating an aerosol-forming substrate to form an inhalable aerosol when heated is provided, the device including: a receiving cavity to removably receive at least a portion of an aerosol-generating article including the substrate; an electrical heater to heat the substrate when the article is received in the cavity; and a puff detector including a temperature sensor to detect a temperature change of air flow in the cavity indicative of a user taking a puff, the sensor being arranged outside the cavity at a predefined distance to a test spot on an inner surface of the cavity and is further to detect a change of the temperature of the cavity at the test spot that is caused by a change of the temperature of the air flow passing along the inner surface at a place of the test spot when the user takes the puff.
