Abstract

Disclosed are techniques to navigate soft tissue structures based on preoperative imaging for joint arthroplasty. Particular embodiments are useful for direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty but may be applicable in other approaches and/or other surgical procedures. In some embodiments, the patient is imaged with MRI safe markers on the skin prior to surgery. These markers remain on the patient prior to and during surgery. The position of various muscular, venous, and nervous structures can be provided to the surgeon prior to making the incision, allowing him or her to navigate the soft tissue during dissection.
