Abstract
An optical fiber () capable of minimizing strength deterioration includes a core () and a clad () arranged around the core () such that part of the core () is exposed. A rough surface portion is provided at least at part of an outer surface of the exposed portion () of the core () exposed through the clad (). The arithmetic surface roughness Ra of the rough surface portion is equal to or greater than 0.2 μm. The average length Rsm of a rough curve element of the rough surface portion is equal to or greater than 17 μm.
