Abstract

The invention relates to a turbomachine () for supplying air to a fuel cell system, comprising at least one compressor wheel () conjointly connected to a shaft (), and an electric motor () for driving the shaft (), the compressor wheel () being connected via a hub portion () to a preferably hollow-cylinder-shaped shaft portion () of the shaft (). According to the invention, at least one air channel () is formed in the hub portion (), by means of which air channel a compressor inlet () is connected to an annular space () on the side of the compressor wheel () facing away from the compressor inlet () such that substantially the same air pressure is present on both sides of the compressor wheel (). The invention further relates to a method for operating a turbomachine ().
