A controller device programming system and method directed at identifying a connected display deviceconnected to a content management devicevia at least one connected intermediary device. Keywords, whitelists, and blacklists can be employed to evaluate the content of the sink data amalgamation and determine one or more priority display device matches to, in turn, improve selection of a set of function codes for control of the connected display deviceusing a controller devicepaired with the content management device
