Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of taking a core sample of a formation. The method includes reducing a viscosity of a water binding starting material in a pumping form. The water binding starting material includes at least one polymer, at least one cross linker capable of curing the at least one polymer and a retarder capable of delaying cross linking of the at least one polymer. At least one additive is added to the water binding starting material to reduce the viscosity of the water binding starting material to less than 2 times of a viscosity of water at a selected temperature. The method further includes pumping the water binding starting material into a borehole in a formation, allowing the water binding starting material to cure in the formation, and taking the core sample from the formation containing the cured water binding starting material.
