Abstract

A photoacoustic element which has excellent optical properties and acoustic properties is achieved. The photoacoustic element () includes: a metal layer (); a first member () which is bonded to one primary surface of the metal layer (); and a second member () which is bonded to another primary surface of the metal layer (). The metal layer () reflects optical waves and transmits photoacoustic waves stemming from optical waves. Materials of the metal layer (), the first member (), and the second member () are selected so as to match an acoustic impedance of the metal layer () and an acoustic impedance of each of the first member () and the second member ().
