Abstract

The invention relates to substituted pyrimidine compounds with the following formula: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, stereoisomer, or tautomer thereof. These compounds selectively target the hemopexin domain of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) and do not inhibit the protease's catalytic functions. The invention also relates to methods of treating cancer in a patient in need thereof with the compounds.
