Abstract

A communications system () comprising: an antenna () that comprises a plurality of serially connected sub-antenna elements (); and a signal generator () configured to provide a transmission signal to the antenna () for propagating along the sub-antenna elements (). The transmission signal comprises a plurality of serial symbol packets. The signal generator () is configured to set the phase of the serial symbol packets such that when they align with predefined ones of the sub-antenna elements () the antenna () provides a beamformed signal.
