Abstract
A compound needle () for knitting machines, which is optimised in respect of stiffness, strength and service life and whose needle () has at least one hole () with which a functional element () of the slider () engages when the slider () is in its working portion (). The functional element () connects operatively in such a way with the hole () in the needle () that it limits the freedom of movement of the slider () relative to the needle () to the slider's working portion ()—i.e. prevents the slider from leaving the working portion () at the position of the functional element ().
