Abstract

A transportation refrigeration unit TRU () and power system. The TRU () and power system including a compressor () operatively coupled to an evaporator heat exchanger () and an evaporator fan () configured to flow a return airflow () over the evaporator (). The system also includes a return air temperature RAT sensor () disposed in the return airflow () and configured measure the temperature thereof, a TRU controller () connected to the RAT sensor () that executes a process to determine an AC power requirement for the TRU () based on the RAT sensor (); a generator power converter () configured to receive three phase AC power () from a three phase AC generator () and transmit a second DC power () to an energy storage system (); a power management system () configured to receive three phase AC power () from at least the energy storage system () and generate a TRU DC power (), and directing the TRU DC power () to the TRU system ().
