Abstract

Described herein are novel SCCmec right extremity junction (MREJ) sequences for the detection and/or identification of methicillin-resistant(MRSA). Disclosed are methods and compositions based on DNA sequences for the specific detection of MREJ sequences designated types xi, xii, xiii, xiv, xv, xvi, xvii, xviii, xix, and xx for diagnostic purposes and/or epidemiological typing.
