A method, an apparatus and a computer program for capturing optical image data of patient surroundings and for identifying a patient check-up. The method () for capturing optical image data of patient surroundings and for identifying a patient check-up on the basis of the image data includes detecting () the patient on the basis of the image data. There is a detecting () of at least one further person on the basis of the image data and determining () at least one geometric relation between the patient and the at least one further person. The determining () of the geometric relation includes determining an orientation or a viewing direction of the at least one further person in relation to the patient. The method further includes identifying () the patient check-up on the basis of the geometric relation.
