Abstract
A heat insulating material () includes a heat insulating layer () which has a porous structural body, a reinforcing fiber, and nanoparticles of a metal oxide used as a binder, wherein the porous structural body has a skeleton formed by connecting a plurality of particles, has pores inside, and has a hydrophobic portion on at least one surface between a surface and an inside of the porous structural body. The heat insulating layer () has a mass loss rate of 10% or less in thermogravimetric analysis held at 500° C. for 30 minutes.
