Abstract

Aspects of the present disclosure are directed towards a method of making a scandium metal-doped nanoparticle. The method includes mixing a cobalt salt, an iron salt, and an acid in water to form a solution including CoFeO; mixing a nickel-iron oxide solution and a scandium oxide solution to form a solution including NiScFeO; mixing the cobalt iron oxide solution and the nickel scandium iron oxide solution to form a sol-gel mixture including CoFeO/(NiScFeO)(0≤x≤5); adjusting the pH of the sol-gel mixture 6 to 8 with a base to form a first mixture; heating the first mixture to form a powder, and calcining the powder to form the scandium metal-doped nanoparticle of formula CoFeO/(NiScFeO)(0≤x≤5). The present disclosure also describes an electrode including the scandium metal-doped nanoparticles. The electrode may be used in magnetic supercapacitors.
