Abstract
A pipette modulehas a pipette-module frameattachable to the z-axis frameof a liquid handling system. A translatory-motion frameattached to the pipette-module frameis movable with respect thereto by a motor. A pneumatic aspirator assemblyincluding a cylinder, tube, tube tipand pressure sensoris attached to the translatory-motion frame. A pistondisposed in the cylinderis fixedly attached to the frame. A controllerfor the pipette modulehas a liquid surface detection mode which enables a pressure feedback control algorithm causing the motorto move the translatory-motion framein a z-axis translator motion until a change in a pressure in the tipas sensed by the pressure sensorindicates that the tiphas made contact with the liquid surface
