The present invention relates to a lubricant base oil for power transmission containing a compound represented by formula (1): wherein Rto Rare the same or different, and each represents a hydrogen atom or a Clinear or branched alkyl group,any two of Rto Rmay bind to each other to form a Calkylene group, two Rs, two Rs, two Rs, two Rs, and two Rs may be individually the same or different, X is obtained by removing two hydroxyl groups from a Cbranched aliphatic diol and represents a divalent group containing no quaternary carbon, and the two hydroxyl groups are each of a primary alcohol.
