A smoke detector systemis disclosed, including a beam detector unithaving a moveable portioncomprising at least one light transmitter, a base portion for fixing to a surface, and a motor configured to rotate the moveable portionrelative to the base portion. The system also has at least one receiver for detecting light transmitted by the transmitter.
