Abstract
This invention is directed to a method of oxygenating hydrocarbons with molecular oxygen, O, as oxidant under electrochemical reducing conditions, using polyoxometalate compounds based on the so-called Keplerate capsules, such as [{(W)WO(SO)}{(Fe(HO))}(SO)(HO)]or [{(Mo)MoO)(X')}{Fe(HO)(X)}] or solvates thereof as catalysts, wherein X′and Xare each independently selected from HO, MoO, MoO, CHCOO(acetate), or any combination thereof.
