Abstract

A child seat () detecting means employing a magnet and sensor () for detecting whether a child seat () is mounted on the passenger seat (). A controller () in response to a signal from the sensor () will prevent activation of a pretensioner or belt tightener () from tensioning the seat belt or webbing () which is often positioned about or through the child seat () and/or for preventing an inflator () from expanding an airbag () when a child seat () is detected on either the front or rear passenger seat ().
