Abstract
Provided is a polarizing plate having high transmittance characteristics and high durability. A polarizing platewith a wire grid structure includes a transparent substrate, and a grid-shaped projecting portionwhich is arranged on the transparent substrateat a pitch shorter than a wavelength of light in a used bandwidth and extends in a predetermined direction. The grid-shaped projecting portionincludes a reflection layer, a dielectric layer, and an absorption layerin this order from the side of the transparent substrate. A protection layeris provided on a surface of the grid-shaped projecting portion, and covers all of an upper surface and a side surface of the absorption layerand all of a side surface of the dielectric layer, and at least a part of a side surface of the reflection layer.
