Abstract

An image display deviceincludes an image data conversion unitthat performs conversion processing of converting input image data Dinto driving image data Dfor each pixel, and a display unitthat displays a plurality of subframes based on the driving image data D, in one frame period. In the conversion processing in the image data conversion unit, for each pixel, the hue and the saturation of the input image data Dand the hue and the saturation of the driving image data Din an HSV color space are held to be respectively equal to each other. The image data conversion unitcomputes a coefficient Ks used in the conversion processing, and performs the conversion processing using the coefficient Ks. The coefficient Ks varies depending on a brightness V and has a value causing a brightness after the conversion processing to increase as the brightness V becomes greater if the saturations S are equal to each other. The difference between a minimum value and a maximum value of the coefficient Ks is set to decrease as the brightness V becomes smaller. Thus, an occurrence of noise at a low-luminance portion of a display image is suppressed.
