Abstract

An imaging element (photoelectric conversion element) includes a photoelectric conversion unit formed by laminating a first electrode, a photoelectric conversion layerA, and a second electrode. Between the first electrodeand the photoelectric conversion layerA, a composite oxide layerB containing indium-gallium-zinc composite oxide is formed. The composite oxide layerB includes a first layerBadjacent to the first electrodeand a second layerBadjacent to the photoelectric conversion layerA. The first layerBhas a higher indium composition than the second layerB, or the first layerBhas a higher gallium composition than the second layerB, or the first layerBhas a higher zinc composition than the second layerB.
