Abstract

An image forming optical systemincludes, in order from an enlargement side, a first optical systemhaving a reflecting surface, and a second optical systemhaving a refracting surface. The image forming optical systemis configured to form an intermediate imagebetween the first optical systemand the second optical system. The first optical systemincludes, in order from the enlargement side, a first reflecting grouphaving at least one reflecting surface having negative power, and a second reflecting grouphaving a plurality of reflecting surfacesandhaving positive power. The at least one reflecting surface having negative power includes a reflecting surfaceclosest to the enlargement side in the first reflecting group. An absolute value of power of the reflecting surfaceis smallest in the first optical system
