Abstract

A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode active material includes lithium nickel complex oxide, and the lithium nickel oxide has a layered rock-salt structure and is represented by a composition formula of LiNiMO(where M is at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of Co, Al, Mg, Ca, Cr, Zr, Mo, Si, Ti, and Fe, and x, y, and z satisfy 0.95≤x≤1.05, 0.8≤y≤1, 0≤z≤0.2, and y+z=1). A half width n of a (104) diffraction peak in an X-ray diffraction pattern is 0.13° or less, and the content of the positive electrode active material with a particle size of 3.41 μm or less is 2 volume % or less based on a total amount of the positive electrode active material contained in the positive electrode.
