Abstract

Method for detecting a state of an electric system () in a motor vehicle, said electric system () comprising a generator unit that includes an electric machine () with a rotor winding () and a stator winding () as well as a rectifier () which is connected to the electric machine () and via which the electric system () is connected to the electric machine (); in said method, a decision about the current state of the electric system (), especially about the availability of a battery () of the electric system, is made in accordance with an excitation current (I) flowing through the rotor winding () of the electric machine ().
