Abstract
Disclosed herein are hexadecaphlorethol (HdP), which is a novel compound isolated from, and the use thereof in anti-diabetic treatment and exercise performance improvement. The novel compound HdP has the activity of inhibiting α-glucosidase, inducing glucose uptake into differentiated myoblast C2C12 cells, reducing blood glucose levels in zebrafish which have reduced insulin secretion through treatment with alloxan, increasing an intracellular level of calcium ions necessary for muscle contraction and exercise performance in zebrafish, and inducing uptake of glucose, an energy source necessary for muscle contraction, into cells.
